The electrical panel, also commonly called the switchboard, is an integral part of the electrical system located downstream of the meter. It can be defined as the beating heart of the plant. The two types of electrical panels on the market are listed below:

The various electrical power supply circuits of the house start from the electrical panel, which can be divided either into zones (for example only some rooms) or into sectors (socket line, switch line, air conditioners, etc…).

What Does An Electrical Panel Consist Of?

An electrical panel is essential for the correct functioning of the entire circuit,  always maintaining the same components, which change only in terms of number and type according to the preferred equipment.

The Components Necessary For The Composition Of An Electrical Panel Are Listed Below:

• Magnetothermic switches (usually with 1 or 2 modules with different amperages)
• Magnetothermic differential (generally with 2 modules)
• Pure differentials (also called lifesavers)

Before describing each component in detail, we remind our readers that three magnetothermic differentials are frequently used, of which the first is for the lighting system (connected to chandeliers and wall lamps); the second for 10A sockets and the third for 16A.

There are essentially three main types of electrical panels, each described by a specific IEC reference standard: electrical distribution panels, industrial automation electrical panels and electrical panels on the machine.

The maintenance of an electrical panel is essential: not only does this part of the electrical system guarantee the distribution and supply of electricity, but it also protects people and household appliances from serious damage by cutting off the current in the event of electrical leakage, overloads, current surges and accidental contact with exposed or live parts.
