Despite the fact that worrying about your clothes and how you look is the very antithesis of what yoga is all about, it’s only human and natural to cast a glance around your yoga class while everyone is in a downward dog pose and feel a little shabby.
This is especially true of yoga in some studios in London, where you may very well be lying, mat to mat, next to a celebrity.
Additionally, unless you plan to change after your yoga class, the chances are that wherever you live you will have to travel home in your yoga clothes.
The new generation of yoga clothing has tapped into the needs and wants of the new generation of yoga-lovers. They aren’t ageing hippies who are happy to sling on a pair of fisherman’s trousers circa 1979; they are hip urban fashionistas who happen to love yoga because it brings them peace and joy in a way that nothing else does…and because it gave Madonna great abs.
Yoga clothing is designed to fit comfortably in order for yoga students to be able to get into the often challenging yoga positions; it has to also deal with sweat efficiently, especially for the styles of yoga that are done in heated rooms, such as Bikram.
Just as everyone has their individual tastes in how they choose to dress on a day to day basis, everyone will have a different style of yoga clothing that they will be drawn to. How the yoga clothing suits them will obviously have an impact on their choices – so will comfort and price.
Wide-legged trousers are probably the most flattering, along with a halter-neck top. An all-in-one catsuit is more comfortable than it looks because there are no waistbands to worry about – but they aren’t ideal for a quick trip to the ladies’ toilet in the middle of practise!
Wellicious provide yoga clothing in beautiful fabrics and a selection of styles. Why not treat your body to some Wellicious clothing for the same reason that you treat it to yoga?
