Protect yourself

There is absolutely no doubt that skating whether ice skating, inline skating or roller skating is exceptionally good for building fitness levels and increasing stamina as well as being a great way to get fresh air and have fun socialising. Even tough skating provides much entertainment for kids and adults it is always possible to get injured through a fall whilst skating. Whilst inline skating is a great way to travel around it is also very fast and taking a tumble at great speeds will result in injury, either cuts and bruises or fractured limbs.

Children in particular are at risk, especially from head wounds and should always wear a protective helmet that fits correctly. There are some skaters who don’t wear protective gear, preferring to show off their battle scars to friends but even if your favourite professional skater doesn’t wear protection you should always wear at least a helmet.

As a beginner you will almost certainly fall down many times and will end up with bruises and maybe sprains or breaks so it makes sense to purchase elbow and knee pads as well as a helmet at the same time as buying your skates, whether inline skates or roller skates. A reputable shop such as here at Skates.co.uk will advise you on the type of protective gear you require as well as how it should fit. Most protective wear is reasonably priced and long lasting although if your helmet becomes cracked or damaged it should always be replaced by a new one as a damaged helmet will not offer the full protection required.

Skating of all types is tremendous fun and great for all ages to participate but there will always be the danger of injury which is wear you should always wear protective gear. Before skating it is a good idea to check the area for broken glass or large stones which may cause you to fall.
