Alcohol dependency is a major problem in the UK. However, our current drinking culture makes many feel okay to spend huge proportions of the day in the pub, and since many others will be drinking just as much, a significant number of people may not even realise they have any kind of drinking problem.
However, whether work becomes effected, health suffers or one’s private life starts to unravel, the first signs of an alcohol problem need to be addressed as soon as possible to ensure damage control, otherwise an individual is likely to find they start losing friend, jobs or even years off their life.
However, knowing how to break physical and mental habits is not easy and whilst many people assume that they can do so on their own, the majority of individuals around them will not truly understand the support that is needed. As such, for one to deal with alcohol dependency on their own, they really need a very close friendship or family group to give them a great deal of positive support.
The other option is alcohol detox, and many people avoid this simply due to the stigma of rehab. However, in reality, such detox periods will simply give people that close support group they need, and whilst a few may be lucky enough to defeat alcohol without such a group, many will struggle without it and the whole act of alcohol rehab will simply make the process faster, easier and less traumatic.
Ultimately, individuals may be able to deal with dependency alone, however trying and failing can make it far harder to conquer such demons the next time around and failing first time could lead to many personal problems that last far longer than dependency itself. Therefore, should you feel you need to do something about your drinking, getting the right help from the start is likely to be the best course of action.
