What’s tripping the fashion radar?

Teen trend spotters have been keeping an eye on the recent fashion week jamborees in the US and Europe. Although haute couture is usually out of our price range, there’s no denying the influence these catwalk shows have on fashion as it filters down eventually into the mainstream. Today, ideas for street fashion, party wear and most new fashion for girls will have been seeded way back in the minds of the super-talented, creative geniuses that make up the fashion design glitterati. Those fringed skirts we’re all loving right now? They were a catwalk sensation not long ago. The fashion directions we follow today can all be traced back to the glamorous world of designer fashion. So let’s take a look at the current teen trends we’re likely to be seeing in your orbit soon.

Here’s a list of things to pack into that hungry wardrobe of yours this season…

Clothing clues

The big story in fashion this fall is going to be the1970s. Fashions taking their cue from this much loved era will be everywhere. If you are a skirt girl, there’s plenty of choice. Select from that Boho favourite suede fringed number, the denim skirt with button front or a pair of extrovert culottes or funky skorts in 70s tangerine or avocado shades.

Trousers are widening out again, mirroring 70s flares, so ditch the skinny jeans and go large. Up top you’ll be wearing prim and proper blouses with Victorian references such as velvet ribbons, pearl buttons and frills.  If you want to show a little flesh and wear something looser and less tailored, cold shoulder tops and one-shoulder designs will turn heads in your direction.

For chilly days, grab yourself a chunky knit with round neck in pastel shades with furry, fleecy textures. Get in touch with your inner rock chick with a pair of leather trousers brought up to date with customised studs, exposed zips and rips for added attitude.

Blazers are big right now, but not the sort your Granddad wears – search out a sleeveless blazer to wear over nerdy, ribbed 70s polo necks. Drink in all the lovely swirly, floral, intricate prints and patterns with retro cues and let your Bohemian side run wild. Team a maxi dress with the season’s must have head gear, a wide brimmed, felt or leather hat, and you’ve got the key ingredients for a signature look that’s guaranteed to get you noticed.

Footwear fortune-telling

So what are you going to be wearing on your feet? Boots are going to be everywhere this season, which is kind of convenient because our tootsies tend to get colder in winter. Designs inspired by1970s patchwork will see boots stitched up in various finishes, suede, snakeskin and textured leathers will all be centre stage. If you fancy something a bit more delicate, slice it just right this winter with a pair of white loafers.

As well as the patchwork trend, wearing any type of chunky heeled ankle boot will give you an edge. Long, fake fur finishes reminiscent of the petting zoo will be evident on stilettos, sandals and boots. Open toed wedges and sandals with socks or stockings and plenty of bling will set you apart as a hipster heroine and if you can stretch the budget to a pair of thigh high patent boots, you’ll be rocking the season’s look 100 per cent.

This comprehensive round-up of the latest teen trends is proof enough that the outlook for your wardrobe is perfectly positive. So what are you waiting for? Get filling the fashion void and hunting down those killer styles immediately….
