Finding Your Personal Style

Style is a journey. It’s a way of life. Looking your best isn’t just about impressing others, it’s about impressing yourself. It’s about making yourself feel good for you and no one else. Whether you’re just starting down the path of your style journey or you’ve already climbed the mountain to its peak finding your personal style can be challenging. Trying to find your unique voice in a crowd of trends, fashion magazines, recycled silhouettes, and overused color schemes can be nearly impossible. Maybe you’re a fashion designer or maybe you’re just someone looking to put together the perfect outfit for an upcoming event. Either way! Finding your unique personal style is crucial to standing out from the crowd.

Inspiration is everywhere! Every designer or style visionary was inspired or influenced by someone else. It’s just the nature of the world. Nothing at this stage in our universe’s history can be 100%, wholly, and completely unique. In one way or another it’s all been done before. That’s not to say that ideas, trends, and styles can’t be fresh, unique, or visionary. Taking the materials, inspirations, and influences that are readily available to you and arranging them in a way that’s unique is the heart of finding your personal style. Take a minute to think about the kind of person you are. Maybe you’re serious, maybe you’re fun and flirty. Maybe you’re dramatic or maybe you’re totally chill. Think about your key attributes. Then think about who you want to be. Think of style as an avenue for change. If you’re a serious individual who’s looking to relax try some styles that you wouldn’t normal wear! Like a funky crossbody bag or bold, colorful top from Kate Spade. Of course you still want to remain true to yourself so don’t try to be something you’re not but if you’re looking to broaden your horizons, fashion is a great place to start.

Now that you’ve determined what kind of person you are, which personality traits you’d like to highlight, and how willing you are to step outside of your comfort zone, it’s time to create your wardrobe. Since you’re going to be expanding your collection of clothing it’s probably a good idea to review your storage solutions. You might need an additional dresser or even portable closet to accommodate your new looks. Walmart has great deals on all your storage solution needs. Whenever you’re creating a wardrobe it’s best to start with the basics. Think about what some of your favorite colors are. You don’t want to have a strict color scheme in your wardrobe but it’s good to have some of your favorites in mind when building one. Basic items in any wardrobe like undershirts, jeans, oversized sweaters, those are best bought in neutral tones. That way you can build upon it with color. Think of your basics like the building blocks for your wardrobe, everything else is built upon them. Don’t be afraid to take runway trends to your living room. Look at some of your favorite designers like Versace or Kate Spade and see how you can tweak those looks to better fit your lifestyle. Playing with textures and colors and silhouettes is all part of the fun. You may want to take a day just window shopping before you take anything home! Play around with it and you’ll find your voice.

When searching for your unique personal style remember who you are and have fun!
